Mississippi company recalls more than 49 tons of catfish because of inspection problem

Quality Poultry & Seafood Inc., a Biloxi, MS, establishment, is recalling 98,916 pounds of catfish fillets that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk.

The catfish fillets were produced from Sept. 2, 2024, through Sept. 5, 2025, and bear various labels. There is concern that consumers may have the products in their homes because of their long shelf life.

The following products are subject to recall [view labels]:

These items were shipped to restaurants and retail locations in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, and from the establishment’s retail store.

The problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS that they were producing catfish products and FSIS determined they were produced without inspection.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and restaurants are urged not to serve them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
